First Alert Forecast: Flash Flood Warning for Hawaii Island until 7:30 PM

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A FLASH FLOOD WARNING is in effect for the windward, southeast, and interior portions of the Big Island. This will continue until 7:30 PM Monday. Rain is falling at rates up to 3 inches per hour. Streams are rising and flash flooding could occur as rain continues.
A plume of tropical moisture will bring the potential for locally heavy rain and a few thunderstorms through Tuesday, particularly over Maui and the Big Island.
A Flood Watch is on for Maui and the Big Island through Tuesday afternoon.
Your First Alert Weather Team has declared First Alert Weather Days Monday and Tuesday for the islands of Maui and Hawaii.
A cold front will approach the islands on Wednesday as a new high builds to its north.
This is expected to bring a period of wet trades and breezy to locally windy conditions to the islands for the latter half of the week.
The High Surf Advisory on north and west-facing shores has come to an end.
A moderate size northwest swell is scheduled to arrive during the Wednesday-Thursday time frame. Surf along east-facing shores will remain relatively small and choppy.
